EES 25 - Remote Sensing of the Environment

Instructor: Dr. Suresh Muthukrishnan

Course information
Remote Sensing Links

Remote Sensing techniques have been in use for several decades and the fields of study that use these techniques are ever expanding. Post world war-II, the focus of Remote Sensing shifted from military applications to uses such as natural resources exploration, natural hazard zonation, atmospheric studies, and emergency management systems.

The Living Earth.
This is a real time view of day-night conditions on the Earth as seen from the eye in the sky.

Study of our environment requires a better understanding of land, water and air. This involves intensive usage of airborne and satellite based remotely sensed data. Remote Sensing techniques along with Geographical Information System (GIS) support make a powerful tool that is changing the way we investigate the world.

What will you gain from this course?

  • Fundamental principles behind remote sensing techniques
