Important
facts about EES trips are:
Trips range in duration from one to four weeks. Summer trips begin
in early June or mid-August. Excellent opportunities to see regional
geology first hand.
Trips are designed
so as to minimize the cost to the student. For this reason most
trips are not offered for course credit, which would require the
student to register and pay tuition.
Frequently these
field trips have been funded by National Science Foundation-Research
Experience for Undergraduates (NSF-REU) grants to the EES department
or by the Carolinas-Ohio Science Education Network (COSEN). For
trips funded by these grants, all food, lodging, and transportation
are provided free to the student.
Camping at national
and state parks/forests is the norm for most EES trips. Tents and
cooking gear are provided. The itinerary always provides a chance
to build camaraderie between faculty and students under relaxed
circumstances.
